Barrel aging cocktails has been a mini-movement for the past year or so, so barrel-aged bitters only make sense. Our own very, very short run of Whiskey Barrel Aged Angostura Bitters (returning next fall) were one; now grandaddy of the bitters movement Fee Brothers has come out with Orange Bitters aged in Ransom Gin barrels, lending it a nice layer of citrusy, pine-y botanicals that definitely carves out a new corner in the orange bitters world. Ran into Joe Fee during the Manhattan Cocktail Classic when he was toting the brand new bottle around, handing out tastes at various events around the city. Apparently the right players tasted it, as it’s been nominated for Best New Product for the Spirited Awards at this year’s Tales Of The Cocktail.
