The Black Mission Fig Bitters pairs beautifully with scotch it’s no surprise that we’re seeing it used in scotch cocktails, from Highland’s “Blackbird” to this hot ticket from Saveur called “The Scottish Dream”. It’s inspired by Speed Rack gang leader Lynnete Marrero‘s creation “The Flannen Isle Lua”; see her original recipe below.
THE SCOTTISH DREAM
1½ oz. blended whiskey
1 oz. grapefruit juice
½ oz. cinnamon syrup
½ oz. lemon juice
2 dashes of Black Mission Fig bitters
FOR THE CINNAMON SYRUP:
1 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1. MAKE THE CINNAMON SYRUP: In a saucepan, bring the sugar and cinnamon stick to a boil with one cup of water, remove from heat and let sit until cool.
2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake all ingredients. Strain into a tumbler filled with fresh ice and serve.
And Lynnette’s original:
THE FLANNEN ISLE LUA
2 oz. The Black Grouse
1/4 oz Grapefruit juice
3/4 oz Cinnamon syrup
1/2 oz lemon juice
Barspoon shredded coconut
2 Dashes Brooklyn Hemispherical Black Mission Fig Bitters
Shake all ingredients and strain over ice.
